Hartsvillen Family YMCA

Building, growing, and thriving, the Hartsville Family YMCA was founded in 1985 as a storefront operation with one employee. By 1988, the Y moved into the historic Coker Department Store building in the heart of downtown. In 1998, a major expansion and renovation was completed resulting in a full facility YMCA that far exceeded the initial dreams.

Spring Swim Lessons

Hartsville YMCA

Learn one of the most important life saving skills in the only indoor pool in Darlington County. All classes are taught by trained and certified instructors maintaining a low teacher/student ratio. Swim lessons that are cancelled due to weather will be made up on Friday. Each Session is 2 days a week for 4 weeks. Parent must be in the pool during Waterbabies Classes*.SWIM Lessons

Hartsville Summer Camps


*All Specialty Campers have the option of extended care at the Y until 6pm at no additional cost! Just bring a sack lunch, swimsuit, and towel.

Water Ski Camp—June 5th-June 9th, 8am-12pm. Ages 7-18. Veteran instructor, Steve Roos, delights in introducing your child to water skiing or improving his or her skills. The small camp size allows generous time behind the boat and encourages rapid progression from two skis to one. Limit 10 students. Groups will be divided by age of students. Wear bathing suit, bring towel and sunscreen. Make sure the participant is eager to learn and NOT afraid of lake water! There will be lifeguards and helpers present. Y-member $100/potential member $130.

Tumbling Camp—June 5th-June 9th, 9am-12pm. Ages: 6-12. Under the guidance of Coker College Cheerleader, Jordan McCoy, campers will be focusing on developing new gymnastic skills and will even learn how to create their own routine! We will also have a trip to Hi-Wire in Columbia to show off our skills! Please wear tennis shoes and shorts. Y-member $100/potential member $125.

Critter Camp—June 12th-June 16th, 9am-12pm. Ages: 5-12. “Scutes and Scales” will be joining us this summer to teach us all about animals! They will be bringing in live animals such as snakes and lizards of all sizes, a fox, and a red tail hawk! There will also be an opportunity for parents to come out and the kids to take a picture with their favorite animal! There will be an educational portion each day about the animals that are brought in if time permits. Campers will also get a chance to dissect an owl pellet! Y-member $100/potential member $120.

Musical Theater and Drama Camp—June 12th-June 16th, 9am-12pm. Ages: 6-12. Led by actress and Coker College graduate, Tara Haynes, this week is a perfect opportunity for kids to enjoy a memorable experience while singing and dancing and making new friends. We will close the week with a performance on Friday. Y-member $60/potential member $80.

Miss Manners Camp—June 19th– 23rd, 9am-12pm. Ages 5-10. Your little princess will enjoy fun activities involving skin care, modeling, table manners, and more. Also, a special beauty queen will be making a visit! This camp includes a visit from local esthetician, Chasity Ambrose, who will do facials and teach campers about proper skin care. Wear shorts and tennis shoes. Camp concludes on Friday with a party at Top Hat Teas in Florence! Y-member $100/potential member $125.hugs

Hook, Line, and Sinker Camp—June 19th-23rd, 9am-12pm. Ages 6-14. Learn all of the fishing basics, cast your line at private ponds, and hang out with our CEO Shawn Patch. Bring snack/drink, fishing pole, tackle box, towel and sunscreen. Y-member $95/potential member $125.

Mini Christian Values Camp—June 26th-30th. $50. 9am-12pm, Ages: rising 5th graders-rising 8th graders. Are you ready for a week of fun, fellowship, and friendship? The YMCA Blue Ridge Christian Values Camp is for you! Led by teens who have attended the CVC Camp in the Blue Ridge Mountains in NC, this camp brings together what we believe makes camp great-making friends, playing games, and learning lessons that you will remember for the rest of your lives. Join us this summer for an experience you don’t want to miss!

Horsemanship Camp—June 26th-June 30th, 8:30am-12:30pm Ages: 6-12. Camp will be held at Tally Ho Equestrian Center in Timmonsville, SC. They will introduce students to horses in a safe and educational environment. Tally Ho has 15 available horses for campers! Campers have a great week learning many aspects of the horse! Kids will cover handling, grooming, tacking the horse, bathing, riding bareback, a riding lesson, and crafts! Helmets are provided and required (no additional riding clothes/equipment needed). Wear pants and tennis shoes/boots. Snacks are provided! Y-member $180/potential member $200.

Puzzle Pieces Camp—July 10th-14th, 10am-12pm. Ages 5-12. In conjunction with the Darlington County Autism Support Group, the camp will contain aspects of music and movement as well as developmentally appropriate cognitive and social skills. Children will engage in play, swim, art, music, and other therapeutic activities. We will also be taking a trip to EdVenture in Columbia! $30 per child.

Dance Camp—July 10th– July 14th, 9am-12pm. Ages: 6-12. Camp will be led by professional dancer and Coker College graduate, Tara Haynes. Kids will twirl into a world of dance and will experience new and cutting edge styles of dance. We will also have a dance showcase for our parents on the final day of camp! Y-member $60/potential member $80.

Christian Values Camp—July 16th-July 21st. Registration is open now through June 5th. Fees are $440 until May 31st, $475 until June 29th, and $500 thereafter. Ages: rising 9th thru just-graduated 12th grade. This five-night experience located in Black Mountain, NC is the most fun and the most thought-provoking you will EVER attend. Themed mixers, talent show, family feud, devotionals, family groups, Eureka treats, and the Fire of Friendship are just a taste of what’s in store for you. Accommodations are dormitory-style and meals while on the mountain are included. Visit for more details. Requires 4 volunteer hours at the YMCA prior to camp. See Denise or Nique for more info.

Movie Madness Camp—July 17th-July 21st 9am-12pm, Ages: 3-5. Walk the red carpet into a world of famous characters! Celebrate Hollywood with a different movie as the inspiration for each day’s activities. Watch classic movies, play games, and make awesome crafts! Y-member $60/potential member $80.

Fun Factory—July 24th-28th, 9:30am-12pm. Ages: 3-5. Calling all tots! Spend each day of this camp with exciting new activities including trips to nearby parks and EdVenture in Columbia! Y-member $60/potential member $80.Fish

Art Camp—July 24th-July 28th 9am-12pm, Ages: 6-12. Led by Coker College graduate and artist, Ashley Gillespie, you’ll get creative, messy and have a fun time creating your very own art! Experiment with a variety of art mediums throughout the week! At the end of the week, we will have an art gallery set up for parents to see all of the camper’s creations! Y-member $80/potential member $100.

Wet and Wild Camp—July 31st-August 4th 9am-12pm, Ages: 3-5. Splishin’ and splashin’ through five fun days! It’s time to get soaked through a series of pools, sprinklers, slip ‘n slides and more! We will also be making a trip to Ripley’s Aquarium in Myrtle Beach and Splash Pad at Byerly Park! Bring a towel, swimsuit, and sunscreen. Y-member $75/potential member $95.

Tennis Camp—Aug7th -11th, 9:30am-12pm. Ages 6-12. Led by Coach Bill Simpson, Head Tennis Coach at Coker (USPTA/USPTR Certified), camp will provide instruction and activities for all levels of players. He will be accompanied by Coach Alex Poda, Assistant Tennis Coach at Coker College and Head Pro at Hartsville Country Club (USPTR Certified). The progression of the camp will be as follows: Day 1 – Forehand, Day 2 – Backhand, Day 3 – Serve and Volley, Day 4 – Ground Stroke Rally. Each camper will have the ability to learn and utilize proper tennis footwork and proper technique, as well as learn the rules of tennis and most importantly HAVE FUN while participating in tennis specific games and activities. Campers will be separated into groups based on age and skill level, in order to provide an atmosphere of engaged learning for each individual. Wear shorts, tennis shoes, and bring tennis racquet. Y-member costs $80/potential member $100.

Cheer Camp—August 7th-11th, Ages 6-11, 9am-12pm. Under the guidance of Coker College Cheerleader, Jordan Mccoy, campers will focus on developing new skills such as jumps, formations, teamwork, and cheer routines. At the end of the week, campers perform their cheer routines for family and friends. Please wear leotards or shorts and tennis shoes. Y-member $80/potential member $100.

Summer Day CampJune 5th-Aug 18th, Ages 4-12. Safe and fun care provided for your children from 7am-6pm each weekday using age-appropriate activities, good character values, and fun themes. Registration fee $20, Y-member $70 per week/potential member $90 per week, daily rate without camps $30. (There is a $5 weekly discount for 2nd child in same family). You may choose to do early drop off at 6:30am for $15 per week. NON-REFUNDABLE/NON-TRANSFERABLE.

Lickety Split 5KJune 10th, 8am. Walk or run our summer road race as it winds through beautiful historic neighborhoods. Sign up at the front desk.

The Kids Fun Run is a flat fee of $10. T-shirts are guaranteed to all pre-registered racers. Race day entries will be taken up until 7:40am.

Hammerheads Swim Team—Join the Hammerheads this summer. Our year-round swim team will continue to meet M, T, Th 4:45-6pm. Our coaches focus upon bringing out the best in each swimmer and beating your last, best time, not other children. Members only ages 5 and up. Swimmers must be able to swim the length of the pool unassisted. $35/month per child and $5 off for each additional swimmer in a family. Join us for an “Open House” on June 5th to see what it is like to be a Hammerhead, make new friends and meet Coach Ali!

City Swim—City of Hartsville residents are invited to swim on Thursdays and Fridays from 3-4:30pm from June 8-August 18. Must have proof of residence. Children 16 and under must have adult present. Bring your own towel.

Youth Spin Class—June 5th-August 18th, 9:30-10am. Ages 11 & up. Want to be a part of exciting indoor cycling classes? Here’s your chance! Meet in Studio C. Free to members. Tennis shoes required.

Lifeguard Training Class

Hartsville YMCA

Train for a job that makes a difference. Become a lifeguard through our program and help keep families safe while they are enjoying the water. We offer 2 sessions to choose from.

  • Must be 15 years old by the last class
  • Must be able to swim 300 yards continuously using front crawl or breast stroke, and displaying rhythmic breathing. It is not timed but must be continuous.
  • Must be able to swim 20 yards, retrieve a brick from a depth of 8ft, and swim on your back, holding the brick to your chest for 20 yards.

When: Session I: Sunday, April 2, 1-7pm, Saturday, April 8, 8am-4pm & Sunday April 9, 1-7pm

Session II: Sunday, April 30, 1-7pm, Saturday, May 6, 8am-4pm & Sunday, May 7, 1-7pm

Requirement: Must take online class prior to completion of actual class and provide proof of passing. The additional cost of online class is $35 made payable to online training institute.

March Exercise Challenge

Hartsville YMCA

Travel to different destinations around the world by exercising. You can walk, run, and bike at the Y or join an exercise class at the Y! Each time you exercise, you reach a new destination (distance) and have your passport stamped by a staff and get your name entered into a drawing for a prize. If you make it all the way around the world, you get an extra entry into the drawing for a prize. All passports must be turned in by April 1, 2017. Pick up your passport in the front lobby or fitness center. Drawing is April 2, 2017. Winners will be notified.

Youth Volleyball League


Come and learn the fundamentals of volleyball, including skills such as passing, serving, setting and hitting. Participants will develop such skills through drills and friendly play. Volleyball is a fun, fast-paced team sport that develops many different athletic skills. Coached by April Griggs.

Pickleball Evening Clinic

Have you been wanting to learn more about the newest sport at our Y, Pickleball? Now is the time! We are hosting a FREE evening clinic every Tuesday evening starting at 6pm.
